It's a Gig Economy
The 20th century retirees lived a life that progressed from college to first job, followed by a predictable rise through the corporate ranks of that one company (with maybe move a couple of times for promotion), then it was time to retire.
Now we live in a "gig" economy. Technology has sped up our economic cycles. The information superhighway carries data about company earnings, durable goods purchases, and employment statistics in real time. The market reacts -- public companies lay off workers to run lean enough to hit the quarter's targets. I live in Austin. From 9/11/2001 through 2004 and from December 2007 to the present, Austin has been rocked by two downturns.
In response to the "gig" economy, I've developed a portfolio of vocations and avocations:
- Product Marketing
- Public Relations
- Business Plan Development
- Customer Experience Evaluation
- Copywriting for Ads, Websites, Social Media
- Business Journalism such as Case Studies
- Contract Administration and Auditing Services
